In short

A contractor estimate lists the work with a price for each line, the total with any tax and discount, what's included and excluded, how long the price is valid, the deposit needed to book, and a line for the customer to sign and date. Optional add-ons are shown separately so they don't inflate the total. Fill it in here, then print it or save a PDF.

Questions

Contractor Estimate Generator FAQ

What should a contractor estimate include?

Your business and license details, the customer and job site, an estimate number and date, the scope line by line with prices, the total with tax, what's not included, how long the price is valid, the deposit and payment schedule, and a place for the customer to sign.

What's the difference between an estimate and a quote?

People use both words loosely. Often an estimate is an approximate price and a quote is a fixed price for a defined scope. Say on the document which it is, and how changes to the scope are priced.

How long should an estimate be valid?

Long enough for the customer to decide, short enough that material prices don't move under you: 15 to 30 days is common for service and replacement work. Set it in Valid for and the expiry date prints.

Does the customer have a right to cancel after signing?

Sometimes. The FTC's Cooling-Off Rule gives buyers until midnight of the third business day to cancel many sales of $25 or more made at their home, but it excludes repairs or maintenance the customer asked you to come out for and emergencies. State home-improvement laws can add more; check yours.

How much deposit should I ask for?

Enough to cover materials you'll order and commit to the job, within your state's limits on home improvement deposits where they apply. Our deposit guide covers typical amounts by job type and the states that cap them.

Can customers approve estimates online in CrewRobin?

Yes. CrewRobin sends good, better, best quotes by text on every plan; the customer picks an option and signs online, and unsold quotes get follow-up texts on day 2, 5 and 10.
