CrewRobin vs Housecall Pro: AI Call Answering and Field Service for Small Shops (2026)

Housecall Pro is a feature-rich field service suite whose 24/7 AI call answering is sold separately. CrewRobin includes its AI receptionist in every plan. Here's how they compare for a shop with a few trucks.

Housecall Pro is field service software for home service businesses, from solo operators to teams of 100 or more. It says more than 200,000 pros use it, and its plans cover online booking, scheduling and dispatch, estimates, invoicing, payments, consumer financing, a price book and review management, with routes, GPS and QuickBooks sync on higher tiers. Its AI Team includes CSR AI, which answers calls and web chat and books jobs.

CrewRobin is an AI front office for HVAC, plumbing, electrical and roofing shops with 2 to 15 trucks. Its AI receptionist answers every call, checks the ZIP, offers real open times and books the job; missed-call text-back, online booking, reminders, quotes, invoices and review requests work from the same job. It's a much smaller product than Housecall Pro, and this post says where that matters.

The short answer

Choose Housecall Pro if you want a complete field service suite with a technician app, GPS, routes, QuickBooks sync, financing and payroll, and you're willing to pay separately for 24/7 AI call answering. Choose CrewRobin if you want AI answering and booking included in the plan, missed-call text-back without buying a phone product, and you can do without an app, GPS and accounting sync.

Key takeaways

  • Housecall Pro's plans start at $79 a month (1 user) and include a price book, financing through Wisetack and review management, which CrewRobin doesn't match on financing.
  • Housecall Pro says 24/7 call answering by CSR AI "is a paid feature" sold separately; the price isn't published. CrewRobin includes the receptionist in every plan.
  • Missed-call text-back in Housecall Pro is an automation in its paid Voice product. CrewRobin's is on by default.
  • CrewRobin has no native app, GPS, route optimization, QuickBooks sync, customer portal or financing.
  • CrewRobin is a front office more than a full field service suite: the receptionist, missed-call text-back, online booking and reminders work together on every job, with quotes, invoices and dispatch on every plan, and AI call time is paid from the plan's monthly credits.

Disclosure: we make CrewRobin, so weigh our view accordingly. Everything we say about Housecall Pro comes from its own public pages or published reviews, checked in September 2026 and linked at the end. CrewRobin is new and does less than Housecall Pro in several areas; we list them.

Pricing compared

Housecall Pro publishes its three plans. In September 2026 it also showed first-month and three-month promotions; the prices below are the regular rates.

CrewRobin planPrice
Starter$99/month: 2 seats, 1,500 credits a month for AI call time and texts, every feature
Pro$199/month: 5 seats, 4,000 credits a month, every feature
Crew$349/month: 15 seats, 12,000 credits a month, every feature plus job hours on timesheets

Every plan has every feature, including quotes, invoices and the dispatch board; only job hours on timesheets are Crew-only. Plans are month to month with no contract or setup fee, and a plan's price doesn't go up while you stay on it. Yearly billing is 10× the monthly price (two months free). The launch offer is free until your first 10 booked jobs, with no card up front: jobs booked by the AI receptionist or your online booking page count.

Housecall Pro planPrice
Basic (1 user)$79/month, or $59 billed yearly
Essentials (5 users)$189/month, or $149 billed yearly
Max (8 users, +$35 per extra user)$329/month, or $299 billed yearly
CSR AI 24/7 call answeringSold separately; price not published
Voice (phone system, call tracking)Sold separately; its help center lists call tracking from $45/month and VoIP with call tracking from $65/month

On plan price alone it depends on the size of the team. For one person, Basic at $79 is less than CrewRobin Starter at $99. For two, Housecall Pro needs Essentials at $189, against $99 for Starter with two seats. For five, Essentials is $189 against CrewRobin Pro at $199; billed yearly, $149 against about $166. And answering calls with AI and texting back missed callers are extra on Housecall Pro, and their prices aren't all published. Get a quote for CSR AI call answering and Voice, add them to the plan price, and compare that total with the CrewRobin plan for your team size, which includes the receptionist and monthly credits for its call time (4,000 on Pro).

What comes with CrewRobin

Most shops with a few trucks pay for field service software, an answering service or AI add-on, a texting tool and a review tool, then copy the same customer between them. CrewRobin puts the parts that win and keep the job in one place, starting at $99/month. If you're weighing Housecall Pro, check which of these you'd pay extra for there.

Where Housecall Pro is the better choice

A mature, complete suite

Housecall Pro covers booking, dispatch, estimates, invoicing, payments, a price book, GPS, routes, service plans and QuickBooks, with a mobile app for technicians. On Capterra it rates 4.7 out of 5 from 2,747 reviews, the most of any tool we compared, with reviewers praising how intuitive it is.

Financing and payroll options

Wisetack financing is on every plan, and payroll and accounting are available as add-ons. CrewRobin offers neither.

A lower entry price

At $79 a month (or $59 billed yearly), Basic is cheaper than any CrewRobin plan if you don't need AI answering.

Help in Spanish and human backup

Housecall Pro offers Spanish-language support, and CSR AI can hand calls to a human rep. CrewRobin's receptionist speaks English only and hands off only to the owner's phone.

Where CrewRobin is the better choice

AI answering is the product, not an add-on

Every CrewRobin plan includes the receptionist, with its call time paid from the plan's monthly credits (1,500, 4,000 or 12,000). It asks the problem, address, ZIP and urgency, turns away addresses outside your area, and books one of up to three open times. See the AI receptionist.

Missed-call text-back without a phone plan

Callers nobody talked to get a text within a minute, from day one, with replies in one shared inbox. In Housecall Pro it's part of Voice.

Reminders and call backs on every plan

A reminder text goes about a day before each visit booked ahead; the customer replies C to confirm or R to reschedule. Calls the receptionist can't book become call backs you get a text about. See appointment reminders.

Maintenance plans below the top tier

Every CrewRobin plan has every feature, so maintenance plans, billing them and the drag-and-drop dispatch board come with Starter at $99; Housecall Pro puts recurring service plans on Max at $329.

Who should choose which

Choose Housecall Pro if

  • You want one suite for the whole business, with a technician app, GPS and routes.
  • You need QuickBooks sync, financing or payroll.
  • Your team is larger than CrewRobin's 15 seats, or you want Spanish-language support.
  • You mostly book work yourself and don't need AI answering.

Choose CrewRobin if

  • Missed calls are costing you jobs and you want AI answering included in the price.
  • You want text-back, reminders and review requests switched on without extra products.
  • Your technicians can work from a phone-friendly web page.
  • You don't need accounting sync, GPS or financing yet.

Using CrewRobin alongside Housecall Pro

You can keep Housecall Pro and forward the calls you can't answer to CrewRobin's receptionist. It books the job on CrewRobin's calendar and texts you the details; there's no live sync, so you'd enter the job in Housecall Pro yourself.

To move over, CrewRobin imports customers, jobs and invoices from Housecall Pro export files, with a preview and undo. See switching from Jobber, Housecall Pro or ServiceTitan.
